MBR-style
microdialysis probes and guide cannulae are intended for use in Mice, or wherever Multiple and/or
Miniature implants of BRain microdialysis probes are desired.
Mouse microdialysis imposes special requirements for a microdialysis probe. Probes and guide cannulae for mice must be small and lightweight. To accommodate the fragile skull of a mouse, probes are held in the guides via a low-insertion force elastomeric fit. The small size of MBR probes also makes them ideal as a general miniature brain microdialysis probe or for implanting multiple probes in a single animal. MBR guide cannulae can be implanted as close together as 3.2 mm on center. Probes alone can be implanted within 2.4 mm of one another. This permits multiple MBR probes to be implanted in a rat. Depending on the targets, two MBR probes may even be implanted in a mouse!
MBR probes are sized for either a 5 or 10 mm guide cannula length. The 5 mm guide is appropriate for mouse and dorsal rat brain structures, while the 10 mm guide cannula is appropriate for more ventral rat brain structures. MBR 5 and MBR 10 probes are available with 1 or 2, or 2 or 4 mm membranes respectively.
