The Empis Automated Drug Infusion System
The Empis Functions as:
- a standalone infusion device for chronic infusions, in vivo microdialysis,
and programmed dosing of animals in a Raturn interactive cage, or
- a dosing accessory for the Culex Automated Blood Sampler (Culex ABS). Because it shares a communications platform with the Culex, it can be used to turn on the blood sampling protocol at any point during or after the drug dosing protocol. Empis is not limited to intravenous infusions. It may also be used for oral dosing of animals with Culex catheters implanted in the stomach or duodenum.
Use of the Empis system is not intended for animals housed in systems requiring the use of liquid swivels. The instrument and software have been calibrated for use without the added dead volume of a swivel. When used with a Raturn interactive cage, the catheter is connected directly to Empis using contiguous tubing with no intervening dead volume from other devices.
