BASi SM Shunt Microdialysis Probe

All other microdialysis probes offered by BASi are designed for placement in a specific tissue. When the material being dialyzed is a flowing liquid, use the SM Shunt Probe to route fluid to the probe.

The SM Shunt Probe was developed to monitor bile. To avoid obstruction of the duct, a shunt diverts the bile past a linear probe and then back into the duct. This approach maintains bile flow during microdialysis sampling and conserves bile salts. Drugs excreted in bile may be further metabolized in the gut and bile salts are recycled there. Open cannula sampling of bile can deplete bile salts and fluids, to the detriment of the animal.
