BASi is a drug development firm providing contract research services and unique products for the pharmaceutical, biotechnology and medical device industries.

Rather than liquid swivel- based systems, BASi suggests you consider a Raturn Awake Animal System. The greater flexibility and reliability of a Raturn allows you expanded experimental design options and no time or experimental data lost due to a leaky swivel. In the long run, a Raturn is the most cost-effective solution. After trying a Raturn, numerous customers have told us they never want to use a liquid swivel- based system again.
However, we recognize there are investigators who prefer swivels for historic reasons or to minimize up-front cost. These are our simplest animal containment systems for microdialysis studies in an awake, freely- moving animal. We offer two liquid swivel systems, each using a different liquid swivel.
The MD-1571 S.S. Quartz-lined Swivel System has the most rugged swivel. However, this swivel also has the largest swept volumes (~ 18 µL and 1.5 µL for the side and center channels respectively). This swivel can be factory reconditioned. If you are retrodialzing a treatment into the animal, unless you will be administering the treatment over many hours, we do not recommend this swivel due to its large 18 µL swept volume.
Unlike the MD-1571 S.S. Quartz-lined System, the largest swept volume of the MD-1570 Teflon Swivel System is 4.5 µL (and ~ 1.5 µL). If you are going to use a swivel- based system, this is the swivel we recommend to retrodialze a treatment into the animal. This swivel can not be factory reconditioned.
Want to minimize swept volumes and/or the potential for swivel leaks? See Raturn.
